6-9, August 2019 Chiang Mai & Lamphun, Thailand

Message from the Governor Tourism Authority of Thailand

On behalf of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), I would like to extend a warm welcome to all buyers, sellers and media to the Thailand Golf Travel Mart (TGTM) 2019, the fifth time it is being held in Thailand. This year, we expect to see over 350 participants from around the world partaking in the golf mart.

TGTM has been hosted in various regions in Thailand to highlight the geographical and professional diversity of the kingdom’s leading sports tourism sector. Chiang Mai, the capital of the Lanna civilisation, is a very important golfing destination. It is part of the TAT’s efforts to promote the picturesque natural landscapes, rich history and culture, and international standard golfing facilities of the Northern region.

Today, Thailand has become the third largest golf tourism destination in the world with some 700,000 golfers coming here each year. There are over 250 stunning courses nationwide with reasonable green fees and high professional standards, not to mention our renowned hospitality. Little wonder that the kingdom attracts big tournaments and the world’s best known golf players. The World Golf Travel Agents Association recently named Thailand as the “Best up and coming Destination for Golf Vacations.” Chiang Mai itself was voted The Next Golf Destination of the Year Asia & Australasia 2017 by the International Association of Golf Tour Operators (IAGTO).

Moreover, it is in line with our strategy to promote ‘Golf and Gastronomy’. Golfers will also be keen to know that Chiang Mai is being added to the third edition of the world renowned culinary guidebook MICHELIN Guide in Thailand, which is due for release at the end of 2019. Chiang Mai is a logical inclusion in the guide given its delicious and diverse cuisine and growing travel connectivity to emerging destinations in the North. Accordingly, Chiang Mai has become a potential destination that can offer memorable golfing experiences and a wide range of after-game activities alike.

We would also like to encourage golfers to try out the emerging neighbouring provinces like Lamphun. These provinces also have beautiful valleys, mountains, forests and historical sights just like Chiang Mai.

We wish all participants in the Thailand Golf Travel Mart 2019 a pleasant and productive stay in Thailand.
